Canine Search and Rescue Association – St. Louis, MO

Canine Search and Rescue Association (CSARA) is located in the St. Louis Missouri area and is a team of volunteers who provide certified teams for missing person searches to law enforcement and other agencies at no charge. Our team has over 45 years of experience with over 2,600 hours of instruction in Search and Rescue and K9 Search and Rescue training. There are ten dogs on the team.Our team has successfully completed over 30 national K9 evaluations in the area of trailing by the North American Police Work Dog Association, North American Search Dog Network, National Association for Search and Rescue, National Narcotic Detector Dog Association and the National Search Dog Alliance.The team has participated in over 130 searches which were conducted for the FBI, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Missouri DNR, Missouri Water Patrol and the Saint Louis Major Case Squad. The team has also participated in search with several agencies in the Saint Louis County and Franklin County areas. We are fundraising for cooling vests that aid in regulating the body temperatures of the search dogs ($250 value / each) and GPS tracking collars that help locate the dogs while allowing them to expand their search area faster ($650 value / each).

Three search dogs were vested with a cooling vest ($250/ea. value) on December 28th, 2013.  An additional dog was vested with a cooling vest on July 23, 2014 ($250 value). 

 

We purchase two GPS units and tracking collars ($1300 value) and presented them on Sept 15, 2015.

Officer Doug Leonard and K9 Nitro, North County Police Cooperative

Nitro is a 2 year old lab. He was born on April 9, 2013 in Virginia and initially trained as an explosives detection dog but Nitro now has been re-trained in narcotic detection and is a natural. His search drive is tremendous.​ Nitro’s Partner/Handler Officer Douglas Leonard has been in law enforcement for only three years and has been given his dream job! He started with DWI work and that lead him to a great opportunity with Nitro. They are very anxious to get all the drugs they can off their streets.

Officer Paul Anderson and K9 Vos, City of St. Johns

We were present at this evening’s City Council Meeting to present St John K9 Vos with a protective ballistic vest. This much needed piece of police equipment will aid Vos and his handler Sgt P. Anderson in continuing their efforts to ensure that St John is a safe place to live.

Officer Dan Allen and K9 Nitro, St. Charles, MO

Nitro is a German Shepherd police service dog trained in narcotics detection, tracking, article searches, and criminal apprehension.  Nitro is St Charles Police Departments newest K9 Officer and is handled by Officer Dan Allen.  Together they serve the St Charles and surrounding area providing K9 assistance and back up when other areas need them.  Nitro is full of energy and ready for the bad guys to run.

 Nitro was vested with a bullet proof vest ($1,000 value) on July 23rd, 2014.

Glenda and Search and Rescue Hera

Hera is another member of the Canine Search and Rescue Association.  She is trained in Air Scent detection.  She is handled by Glenda, and they work closely in the field to search for people that have become lost.  Hera is smaller than the other search dogs and received her vest at a later time than the rest of the group.  She will be happy to have it on those hot Missouri days when she is out searching.

Hera received her cooling vest ($200 value) on July 23rd, 2014.

Officer Hollingsworth and K9 Rommel, Troy, MO

Rommel is a 5 year old German Shepherd.  He is currently the only full service patrol canine in Troy, MO.  He is certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWADA) as a police utility canine which includes tracking, area search, building search, article search, obedience, aggression control, and narcotics. He also has a narcotics certification through the National Police Canine Association (NPCA).

Rommel was vested with a bullet proof vest ($1,000 value) on October 5th, 2013.

Officer Aronson and K9 Talos, O’Fallon, MO

Talos is a 1 ½ year old German Shepherd police service dog.  He was born in the Ukraine.  He is a patrol dog (tracking, apprehension, building searches, area searches, article searches and handler protection) and his detector specialty is explosives.  He is one of 15 explosive K9’s in the St. Louis area and the only in St. Charles County.

​

Talos was vested with a bullet proof vest ($1,000 value) on September 12th, 2013.

Officer Ryan and K9 Zeus, Wright City, MO

Zeus is a German Shepherd police service dog trained in narcotics detection, tracking, article searches, and criminal apprehension. He was imported from Czechoslovakia and was born in 2010. Zeus loves going to work and helping out his fellow officers by assisting in locating illegal drugs and catching the bad guys who choose to run. He also loves meeting new people and enjoys a good pet between his ears. In his off time, Zeus loves playing fetch and tug of war with his handler and family.

Zeus was vested with a bullet proof vest ($1,000 value) on September 21st, 2013.

Officer Jason Davis and K9 Enzo, Wentzville, MO.

Eastern Missouri Police Academy Recruits from Class 2-2015 raised enough funds to donate to Dogs On Duty for us to purchase a Kevlar vest for K9 Enzo of the Wentzville Police Department via their t-shirt sales. Thank you to all that assisted them in reaching their goal so quickly.

Officer Fisher and K9 Phoenix, St. Charles, MO

Phoenix is a German Shepherd police service dog.  He is a patrol dog (tracking, apprehension, building searches, area searches, article searches and handler protection).  He has already been used twice to track individuals that had left the scene of a crime.

Phoenix was vested with a bullet proof vest ($1,000 value), on July 20th, 2013.
